College is only hard if you decide to play instead of work.
No one will call home to tell your parents you are not attending class. Some schools will simply drop you from class with enough absences.
You are becoming a self-sufficient adult - a very scary prospect.
ALWAYS go to the first class EARLY. Listen carefully as the instructor tells you what is expected in each class. WRITE IT DOWN.
Here is a joke we told about college classes.
The first day of class started with the instructor saying "Good Morning class." The freshmen wandered around looking for a seat, the sophmores sat down, the juniors got out a notebook, the seniors wrote it down.
The instructor in college is NOT there to entertain you. You will have to work to get your education.
Make a schedule for the things you need to do. Food shopping, laundry, studying, and some play and recreation. Just be careful that the recreation does not become more important than anything else.
Cramming for tests is a waste of time and will result in much poorer grades.
You will survive well, those that are concerned like you are always do.

What makes it hardest for freshmen is the freedom you have in college. There's no one to force you to do your homework. Curfews are very lax or nonexistent. There's temptation everywhere. Most importantly, there are few or no small quizzes, so when midterms and finals come along, newcomers are overwhelmed. The best thing you can do is plan your time from day one. Make sure you study every day. If you need help, ask for it. Most professors are willing to meet privately with their students. And please, sit near the front of the room, take good notes, and concentrate on what the professor is saying. You're about to enter a new world, make it the best time of your life.

College is not high school, that's for sure. Be ready to be serious about your studies. If you have a hard time adjusting to the rhythm, speak to your professors, that's what they are there for, to help you. Have a wonderful time at college. You'll be fine. It's like starting a new job...pretty soon you'll wonder what you were so upset about.

Make friends as soon as you can. When you move in, see if people want to go to the dining hall, or walk around campus to find where your classes are. You'll enjoy college more when you've got people to enjoy it with. Have fun.

It can be hard, but it is also fun and interesting. We all felt those fears, but most of us very quickly learned to love college. Go and enjoy! You are about to enter the best years of your life.
