If you don't like it get off the baseball forum.
Edit:
Becuz I'm tired of people coming from other sections to diss baseball. And I thought you were one of them. If I'm wrong I'm woman enough to apologize.

I've always looked at it as a sport anybody can play. David Eckstein of the Cardinals is a perfect example. He's 5'7, how many sports could he play other than baseball? It gives smaller or less physical kids something to compete in when growing up.

I also consider it a skill sport versus a physical sport. Yes, it's physical in some ways but not like football.

Because it's simple in it's complexity. The ball is pitched, the ball is hit, the fielder makes the play and throws out the runner (hopefully)

The person watching can keep the ball in their line of vision at all times. Unlike football when the running back falls in to a crowded line and you have to wait for the officials to mark the ball to determine where the player landed.

There is no time limit so you can take as much, or as little time as you need. Each team gets the same amount of outs, so there is no domination of possession. As in football where I might hold the ball for 40 minutes, and you 20 and thus I can easily wear your team out. Not always, but as a general rule this happens.

There are all the mind games, what pitch to throw in a certain situation, will the runner go on the pitch, will they throw a pitchout. There are many games within the game, so to speak. Plus way back when the games were played during the day and people used them to relax and get out into the beautiful weather. Thus the national pastime.

Well, one of the reasons it's the pastime is that it's been played in America longer than other sports.
Also, I personally love the psychological aspect of baseball. You never know what pitch someone is going to throw, if they'll steal, what you have to do if the ball is hit to you. Then trick pitches/pickoffs/plays. Baseball's all in the head.
That, and a lot of people find it fascinating that a human can throw an object faster than they can drive their car(legally) on interstate....

baseball was the first game born in the united states (lacrosse was born in the nation of the Iroquois) ... it was also the first to form professional leagues. that's why its the national pastime.

it is great because it contains the American story in its history, there is segregation, war, excessive drug use, lots of money, scandals, a corporate juggernaut that everyone tries to beat, and a dream in 1967. Did you know the American Association was an old baseball league that formed to sell beer and was forced to shut down during prohibition? that baseball cards were originally on the backs of soft pack cigarettes to keep the cigarettes from breaking and to add sales as a gimmick? That many great ball players quit the league to fight in WWII... and that there is NO SALARY CAP in baseball!

salary caps are for commies!

it is a great game for radio and tv and to see live, and it truly is a beautiful game. You have to think and perform to be a good baseball player. There is a lot of strategy in baseball.

Its is the greatest and most American game there is!

Well, its been around more than 100 years before you were even born for one thing, before football or basketball....it allows you to really get into it and dissect it as its going on, and yet it remains very simple. Its really is still played basically the same way it was played 100 years ago, there were nine innings, 3 outs per at bat, 9 men on each side and you still need to score more runs than the other team. And the history is a very important part of the enjoyment, comparing stars from the past with the current stars, like comparing Cap Anson to Albert Pujols. I think its pretty cool to be able to do that.

Ever watch the game??? It's easy watching and it's not the typical team sport although it's played as a team sport.

It's great because you can goto a game, or watch it on tv and have a conversation or hang out with people without missing much, since its a slower paced sport. When watching faster paced sports like hockey or basketball you could miss something if you have your head turned for just a second..

There is allot more to baseball than you think.
There is team against team, and player against player. The mind games that occur are subtle but add to the game.
The best way to get interested is to pick a team and watch the players. I look for good looking players-then the best hitters and pitchers;I am a chick!
there is nothing better than listening to a game on the radio in the summer time...it is almost like reading but you are listening to the plays. The voice of the announcer blends in with the other noise of summer. Once you get hooked, no summer is without baseball.

Well, most of the fans here (myself included) were raised on it. Its America's past time because it has excisted well over 100 years. The games are fun and exciting. =)

What do you think of it?
