Thank you again. I mean it from the bottom of my heart. I don't know what I'd do without Yhaoo Answers. =[

Since a is a denominator it can not be zero or the value of x would go to infinity

Do the usual to get x by itself on one side\
Multiply by a which makes x-5a=ab
Add 5x to both sides which makes x=ab+5a
Clean it up by putting two factors separate so x=a(b+5)

That is the answer x=a(b+5)

I just saw the second one which you do the same way
2/5(x+1)=g
Multiply both sides by 5/2 to make x+1=5/2(g)
subtract 1 from both sides to make x=5/2(g) + 1
That is the answer x=5g/2 + 1
There is no restriction here.

For x/a - 5 = b, multiply through by a to get x - 5a = ab, then add 5a to both sides: x = ab + 5a.

However, if your problem is x/(a - 5) = b, then multiply through by a - 5 to get x = (a - 5)*b, or x = ab - 5b.

You are a little careless about parentheses, so it is not clear whether the problem is
(1) 2/(5*(x + 1)) = g or
(2) (2/5)*(x + 1) = g .

If (1), muktiply by 5*(x + 1) to get 2 = 5*(x + 1)*g, which is
2 = 5*x*g + 5*g. Now subtract 5*g, then divide by 5*g to get
(2 - 5*g)/(5*g) = x .

If (2), divide by 2/5 to get x + 1 = (5/2)*g , then subtract 1 from both sides to find x = (5/2)*g - 1.

x/(a-5)=b

multiply both sides by (a-5) I'm assuming that (a-5) is a quantity

x=b(a-5) or x=ab-5b

restrictions, based on the original problem, a cannot =5...if it did the denominator would equal zero...division by zero is undefined

it's important to know if you meant to put a-5 in parentheses...if you did, my answer is correct...if not, the previous answerer is correct....

If a is only a denominator.
X/a-5=b

x/a=b+5

x=a(b+5)

x=ab+5a

If (a-5) is the denominator.

X/a-5=b

x=b(a-5)

X=ab-5b
