It could be just condensation/water built up which is no big deal. On the other hand it might be a blow-en head gasket. Look for water in oil. Also unscrew oil cap and turn it over and if it has like a mil-key looking substance that is another way.

A puff of smoke upon start up usually means leaking valve guide seals. Are you sure it's smoke and not water vapor? It's normal to see a bit of condensation upon start up but if it persists you could have a bad head gasket. Make sure the coolant is clear and you're not getting any water in the oil. Any good radiator shop can do a block check test to see if you've got any head gasket problems.

IF IT JUST SMOKES AT EVERY START UP AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT OR FOR OVER A COUPLE OF HOURS THEN IT WOULD BE YOUR VALVE SEALS.

YOU CAN GET THEM REPLACED BUT IT WILL LIKELY DO THIS AGAIN IN ABOUT 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR.

un like the other guy, I don't think it's water in your tank, if it smokes for only a few seconds or even a minute or so then stops, you have worn valve guides.
