I'm almost done with a book that I've been writing and i was curious if anyone knew how to get in touch with a published author. I was just wondering if that was even possible.

There are a lot of great answers that I starred here concerning publishing and the writing process. You can go to my profile and refer to them. I add more as i see them. Print them out and start your own little reference book on writing. Many people here are doing just that.

Over the years, I have written to many authors of books I have enjoyed as well as authors of books I have questioned. You would be surprised how many will write back - once you get past the obvious JK Rowlings and such. Most are more than delighted to respond. I have exchanged some fascinating letters with Christopher Moore, author of Lamb. He is as funny in letters as in person. I have gotten letters from Lisa Unger, Dean Koontz, Michael Connelly ... many. In fact I think James Patterson was the only one who never responded to me and that was because I wrote to tell him about a big error in Cross. I guess it made him mad. Pick a favorite and see what happens. It may pleasantly surprise you. I return all those written to me as well. Always have. Well. sometimes the ones I get are in other languages and those are hard to answer. Pax- C

you could take a creative writing class at a university. Usually these are taught by published authors who are paid to share their experiences and knowledge with their students. In is also possible that through the class you could meet other published writers.
In addition you could have the advantage of putting some of your current work through the workshop process.
