I don't think you actually keep up with developments in the criminal justice system much do you? No reasonable person would see capital punishment as being sensible as either punishment or deterrent. It does nothing to deter crime whatsoever.

We already put more people in prison than most other western countries, yet our crime rate is higher. The Police have far more powers now than they did years ago, many of which affect people who have committed no crime. They should be public servants, not state sponsored storm troopers. The current government even want to give them the power to stop anyone and demand to know where they are going and what they are doing, without suspecting a crime has been (or is about to be) committed. Sounds like a Police state to me.

The Human Rights Act offers protection for the people from the actions of the state and it's agents. For this reason alone it is a good idea.

capital punishment is a good idea.

no age limit for murder is good, but children killing children/parents has only been happening in the last 20 years. bring back spankings to help with that problem and quit putting bored children who watch too much t.v. on drugs that make them crazy.

build more jails. do you know how many people are already in jail that you feed and house with your tax money? get rid of the petty drug offenders and false arrests and knock down some prisons and build a park. and to hell with life in prison. if you start killing criminals who rape, murder, and molest they will QUIT. two years in prison don't faze these guys.

ten years for carrying any concealed weapon. it's your thinking that is going to cost us our FREEDOM. without guns how the heck do you plan to protect yourself if civil war breaks out in this country? if we are invaded? if for some possible reason the government calls for marshal law and we become something like what happened with the Jews? but that can't happen right? not in America surely? guess Europe thought that too, so much for thinking. NO gun control at ALL. Kids shooting themselves? Poor parenting. Once again the bring back spankings would fix that, that and put your guns UP.

human rights? not you or anyone else has the RIGHT to take away someone's human right. if the offense is THAT bad, kill em.

Loss of human rights would bring all kinds of abuses by the police. We would be spending all kinds of time undoing the murders and other crimes committed by the police. The law in this country is a delicate balance between fair honest law enforcement, and a police state that existed under Hitler and Stalin. We all tend to look for an easy way out of crime enforcement. There isn't any. There never was. It is human nature that some people will look for an easy solution to solve their problems with murder, or theft, or rape. That's too bad. But human nature will never change.

^We do have capital punishment in some states. Texas is the leader in putting people to death. In most states it's not used enough. I do believe in the death penalty, but what worries me is the fact that innocent people are put to death as well as the guilty. Maybe they should all get life with no chance for payroll, unless there is DNA proof and/or the person confesses, than they should get the death penalty, this may sound harsh to some, but, I would also like those on death row to be used in experiments instead of innocent animals, they might as well do some good while they are alive.

A good start would be to set up a police force. "Ah!", I hear you say, "we already have one of those." Well, no, we don't. The purpose of a police force is to protect the law-abiding public, to prevent crime and bring criminals to justice. What claims to be a "police force" in the UK actually sees none of these things as a priority. Their priorities appear to be, firstly, not to get hurt and, secondly, to meet their targets. If this means going for an easy target, like prosecuting a child for throwing a sausage, for example, rather than dealing with yobs and thugs, that is what they will do. Until we have a proper police force we will never have law and order.

You really want to lower the crime rate, Change the definitions.

Somebody gets caught smoking a joint he's a criminal, charge = possesion. There's A LOT of those guys in jail.

18 year old boy having sex with his 17 year old girlfriend - criminal. Charge - Statutory rape, lude acts with a minor

Guy walking home from a bar - criminal charge = drunk in public (would they rather he DROVE?)

There are THOUSAND if not MILLIONS of these 'petty crimes'

Punishment SHOULD fit the crime. The problem is what is considered a CRIME.

There are thousands of laws that are absolutely stupid. For example in texas it was illegal once to "hit a bull while having an ice cream cone in your back pocket"

Good luck with that - the thought police are everywhere now and you'd be lucky to get out the door before you were arrested for breaching some criminal's human rights. The police have lost all of their power nowadays - I even had a "local" police officer stop me to ask for directions a few weeks ago! What's the use in a police force when they can't even find their way around their backyard?

Monty, you are so right. Wonder what it will be like in 10 years time. The law is an a*s and it's time the government sorted it out. A policeman friend told me not so long ago that if a burglar came into my home, slipped on a wooden floor and injured himself, he could sue me! What's that about???? The law is always on the side of the criminal, not the victim.

Killing is wrong in any form, but I think these people should be make to pay back to society for their deeds and those that commit heinous crimes should be made to be guinea pigs for scientists for cures. Or even made to clean up derelict areas and make them beauty spots, or anything that would benefit the society that the person took from.

I am with you in general, but as I have said too many times, a prosecution can lead to a totally incorrect verdict, the jury may not understand the case, and the judge may be biased.

Therefore, I cannot agree with capital punisment.
