My brand new 2007 Shadow Spirit was hit by a co-worker in our parking lot the other day and it was tipped. She has already promised to get all the damage fixed. She is super-nice and if possible I'd like it to be as cheap as possible (without comprimising how my bike ages). Both exhaust pipes were scratched. Is there anything other than replacing the pipes altogether that will fix the scratches without making the pipes more susceptible to corrosion as the bike ages? I'm especially nervous about this as I live in a salty air environment.

Scratches will rust.
2 choices that are cheaper than buying new replacements:
Buy aftermarket exhaust, or find a set of new take-offs from someone who has. You may even find them at a dealer.

Since so many people think it is necessary to change out their stock pipes for louder ones, you can usually get an excellent deal on barely used stock pipes on eBay.

you could replace the scratched items with stainless ones for less money than originasls would cost from a main dealer, that way you both win.
