After talking to 3 LC I found out I have a low supply. Oh, I might be pregnant so I'm trying to watch what I do to boost my supply. The supply issues started before possible pregnancy. I have a few questions.

1) I know I shouldn't take fenugreek if pregnant I was reading on drjaygordon.com the blesses thistle is okay while pregnant but is there anything else that would work better that would be safe in pregnancy?

2) Is it still okay to try pumping on top of nursing?

3) I need larger breast shells for my pump but I don't know the brand. All it says on it is "The Milk Bank Pump". Anyone have any ideas on where I could get parts for it?

4) How can you tell when you can back off on the supplements? I know I can't yet because I already tried.

5)How do you balance supplementing without making your supply worse?

6) Is it possible to use an SNS with an 8 month old?

I think that wraps up my question. As you can see I forgot to ask the LC some things. Thanks in advanc

I was nursing every hour, day and night, for a month and a half. I want to pump I just need to find attachments for mine. My daughter wasn't having enough wet diapers and started loosing weight. Supply and demand is not working, I tried.

Thistle works for many but not everyone. Your pump sounds like one that was distributed by the National Milk Bank. I do not know what brand they used. You might contact them if you cannot produce enough on your own. There is no shame on this.

How long have you been experiencing issues? Pregnancy can certainly dry you up, and some women lose production volume when they start ovulating again.

Its always going to come down to supply and demand. If you're not getting enough milk, you need to place more demand on the breast. I would pump and put the baby on the breast every couple hours.

You can look on Ebay for the large attachment for your pump.

I dont believe in suppliments, theres so much about herbal remedies that is not extensively studied. I'd hate to find out later that it causes birth defects.

I have never taken any supplements and was pregnant and nursing 2 time with my first 4 kids. Lots of water and nursing them when they were hungry produced all the milk needed. I would suggest you stop worrying and drink plenty of water and feed baby and pump if he needs abottle.
Good luck with everything

first of all whats with the supplements...eat great healthy food and stop worrying...the supplements may not be up to all that they say they are...
and yes pump away and you will increase the supply...or allow your baby to be at the breast longer and the supply will increase naturally...your baby is best for this too...unless you are working and all then the pump can be used to help...
if nursing is done proplerly, without food to your baby, then natural family planning will be enforce and pregnancy wont occurr...for millions of years women nursed their babies without supplements...just long term nursing, good nutrition, and peaceful time with your baby.

Buy a pump the more you pump the more your body thinks it needs to produce. You might not get much at first but the more you keep doing this your milk supply will come up.

Call your doctor or the 1-800 nurse hotline. A pharmacist can probably tell the right thing to do as well.
