Not at all. The first baseman has to be one of the more reliable gloves on the team. With the rest of the infield throwing to first to retire the hitter, it would present a real problem if the 1B cannot catch the ball. A good defensive first baseman can even make the play on poor throws, saving his or her teammates from what would otherwise be an error.
Your height and ability to stretch are good qualities for a first baseman. On close plays, your ability to stretch out for the ball will often mean the difference between "safe" and "out".
Add to this the fact that you are responsible for grounders and pop-ups that come your way, just like any other infield position.

If you like it keep playing the position, I've played softball for 7 years and always thought that first base looked fun but my position was always second base. Good luck in highschool!

First base is not only an extremely important position to play but it is also one of the toughest positions to play, in my opinion, because of all of the footwork you have to learn and knowing how to stretch for a throw and when. If you like the position i would keep playing and the other person should understand that what happens will give the team the best opportunity to win games.

1st is not the easiest but its not the hardest. It seems a majority of players these days are right handed or hit to the 3rd base side...however being flexible and tall gives you an advantage in stretching and reaching for the ball when thrown to 1st base...so that alone makes you an ideal candidate. The best palyer at that position should get the starting spot so if you beat her out for it dont feel sorry...

OMG FIRST IS AMAZING!! Your coach put you at first because he relies on you and obviously you have the skills to play it. I have played first/pitcher for the last 2 years and first is (so im told) really important. You are the one calling the plays and you are the one who always has to be paying attention cause you ALWAYS have the plays. So first base is sooo not lame. Althought it can get a little boring. But also short stop is really funn if you wanna be moving around alot

There is no easy position when you play competitively! Everyone is involed at every crack of the bat. dont worry about taking over someones position. You need to play wherever your coach feel you would help your tem the most. let your high school coach know that you can play more than one position and you are willing to do whatever to help your team out and your coach will love to hear that! Good Luck!

First Base gets the second most action on the field. First of course is the Pitcher. As a first base player you should make the majority of the outs and should be one of the taller players on the field.
It really depends on what type of action you like. IF you like throwing the ball more than catching, I recommend playing third or short stop if infield. Center Field or the Roamer position if you like the outfield.
