Harry: Yes.
Snape: ...Sir.
Harry: There is no need to call me "sir," professor.

Snape was merely telling Harry to call him "sir." Harry knew this but he just sarcastically showed that he thought Snape was calling him "sir". Harry mocked him and sarcastically said Snape didn't have to call him "sir".

Snape wanted Harry to call him sir. But all he said was "Sir" when Harry stopped. This was intended to remind Harry that he should refer to Professor Snape as sir. But instead Harry acted as if Snape had called him sir. Which of course really ticked off Snape.

Hope that helps.

Harry was just being smart to Snape, but I partially took it as sir refers to respect for someone and since Harry & Snape don't respect each other Harry sees no reason for the word sir to be said.

He was basically being sarcastic.
Harry told Snape something and since he didn't say sir, Snape decided to correct him by saying it.
That's when Harry said there was no need to call him sir.
It's just a big old bowl of sarcasm since he doesn't like Snape.

Snape said 'Sir' to remind Harry to call him sir so, Harry was being a bit of a smartass and replied 'You don't have to call me sir' as if Snape had ment it in that way.

:( i for my section understand you. :) I cried too when I first examine books 6 and seven, and that i nonetheless cry when I reread them. So, to respond to your questions: a million. it is a tricky question. incredibly. I belive Hermione is my generic character, by using fact , she is amazingly smart, in basic terms, an particularly reliable chum for Ron and Harry, she consistently facilitates them, whether she disagrees and because i think of it is particularly confusing to be the only woman between 2 boys . :D 2. Bellatrix is my least generic character by using fact she murdered her own brother! I recommend, it is revolting! ...and she or he laughed after that.... 3. Frankly, I leave out each and every physique that died...particularly Fred Weasley , Tonks and Lupin , Hedwig ( she did no longer should die), Sirius, Dumbledore needless to say, even Snape, by using fact interior the top he tutor that he became reliable, Colin Creevey, by using fact he became so youthful, and something of different 50 persons who died interior the conflict of Hogwarts. R.I.P. all :( As a private oppinion, i think of that J.ok. Rowling became slightly merciless with the final books ( 5,6,7) ...
