My husband passed away from lung cancer 2 years ago. I had a credit card in my name and cannot pay it (on social security only). I have no money and no job (though I have pursued employment). I have an IRA that will mature in 1 1/2 years (the only money I have). Can they take that?

Yes they can. I suggest you keep looking for a job.

Under a Writ of Execution, retirement funds/CD's or personal bank accounts are exempt from seizure. If you have other tangible assets, they may be at risk. Generally, your homestead is also exempt. You should check your state's Property Code to learn more about this subject.....

Good luck......
