Because we want to find someone who agrees with us, so that we have a self-affirmation of being right.

Opinion is only worth what you pay for it. A friend once told me.
But here is mine. If I'm in doubt I seek other opinion. I use to value the ones that sounded confident and sure. But I've learned that most of those are just made up and hold no merit. I now can review many and come up with the answer I'm looking for eventually.
Sometimes you are given an opion without asking, these can be easily separated good from bad by the begining, I find that as soon as I hear "you should" I now run. But the other times I really have to listen and take into account. Someone who is willing and cares enough, has courage and really thought about it prior is not an opion you should brush off so easily. ok I'm rambling sorry.

Because from the time we are born, we gain self-confidence through the words and encouragement of others- mostly our parents. And when we are in school, we gain confidents through a sense of belonging, fitting in with the crowd, etc. Some people, who get a poor "head start", as adults need constant affirmation that what they are doing is right (or wrong)- these are the people who have low self-esteem . Even the most secure and confident of people, find that how other people feel about you defines who you are. Thats just how life is. If everyone at work hates you, than you are probably not getting that promotion you wanted. And if the majority says your an ***- well, your an ***! (not you of course- just a manner of speaking)

I guess my answer is a little different than others.
I see the world through one view... Mine.
I ask others opinions because I seek the truth and the best choice. They can offer me their views.
Than I sit and ponder over all the information I have collected, look at things from as many angles as I can.
Than I make my choice, hoping the choice I have made is the right one because I really, really don't want to do that task over again. I'd rather move forward to the next task and concur it.

I don't... it works the other way for me.
Try Yoga or Meditation or something to get a better connection to your inner self.
If you have more confidence in the opinions of others, you need to connect better with your own inner Self. This is not criticism, since you will find that you are much more than you know. Be the great person that you are... deep inside, and you will have more confidence in what you think.
Another good resource on connecting with your inner self... "Gospel Enigma" It's a free resource at New Free Books.

i agree with hillibilee. if you didn't care at all what others' opinions were, then everyone would just be a bunch of lunatic arrogant assholes. there are more other people than there are you so there are more opinions but i don't think that in the end any one person opinions out weigh our own.

Childish indecision. Keeps you from being found at fault from a poor choice. So don't do it! State your mind and feelings and may the devil take the hindmost!
