Less men would be accused if they practiced safe sex and used a condom!

I would hope that most babies are born to a married couple and that the couple is faithful to each other. My husband and I trust each other. We are also having a baby.

Why should my health insurance rates go up to pay for paternity tests each time a baby is born? That is insane! Don't sleep with someone unless you are mature enough to take care of a baby and support the baby with that person.

I really hope your question was just asked to irk people instead of you really having that sort of attitude.

Yes, all men not married to the mom should have a DNA test when the baby is born. If they are too stupid to do so, that's their problem. Many are simply too cheap (they want it all free). BTW, a judge won't order child support if the father requests a DNA test. The judgement will come after the results. In some states, the birth certificate cannot have the father's name on it without the guy filling out an affidavit of paternity.

Married men, well, that's another story. The baby is legally theirs whether it is their's biologically or not. However, if he questions it, then he should do a test. Current estimates are that about 5% of children born to married couples were fathered by someone else unknown to the husband.

Most couples that are having children where the man is actually going to be involved trust each other enough to not NEED one. It's not a necessity. And if you're being told to pay child support, then you get a test if you don't think it's yours. But if you're sexually involved with someone, there are consequences to it, regardless of what many people seem to think when they're sleeping around. This is also why contraceptives were invented. Stupidity is not an excuse, and neither is, "well, I don't like the way the condom feels, so I'll just pull out in time- I PROOOOOMISE."

Because when most people have a baby they are married and it's clear who the father is. It would be silly and expensive to require people to do blood tests when it's not necessary.

If a man has a question about whether he's the father, it's always ok to ask for a blood test. Likewise, in child support claims, if the man is contesting his paternity, it's fine to also ask for a blood test.

If there is any doubt as to whether this child is yours, you should definitely have a paternity test. The reason this is not a law is because most people know who fathered their child! And, of course, everything costs money. Insurance isn't going to pay for every person to have a paternity test when most people don't need one.

Anytime a father denies paternity a blood test can be required, court ordered if necessary. Paternity can be claimed by the father by signing they birth certificate or other document later, or by blood test only. He can not be forced to pay child support in the US without one or the other of these.

If that man wants to make sure he is positively not the father, yes. If he does not get a test done he could be stuck paying support for a child that is not his.

Actually in some states if you are married to the mother the child is yours under the law, regardless of what DNA may proove.

Honestly just because a child doesn't have half your DNA doesn't make them "not yours" and just because you share half the DNA with a child doesn't make you a parent.

If a man wishes to confirm paternity he is always free to get a test.

If you are not married and suspect your gf is cheating on you of course get a blood test But here's the deal if more of you guys would step up and insist on the use of condoms there'd be a lot less unwanted babies. Take some responsibility boys!

Someone thought to be a baby's father has the right to request a paternity test. To test everyone is ridiculous. Do you know how much that would cost??? Don't kid yourself there is allot of dads who know they are the fathers to children and don't do anything to support them.
