I believe that these are the facts. But, since it's congress that hands out the bucks, this is subject to change. Also, I think that this is a huge expenditure of time and energy and will bring down a heavy rain of criticism from around the world. I would not approve it were I the President.
Congress approved 700 miles of fence. (This is the point - a Democratic Senate and House has authorized this construction.) 153 miles are scheduled to be built by the end of 2008. What will actually happen is anyone's guess.
One more point: the proposed wall will be hi-tech and placed in areas where the greatest amount of traffic CAN take place. Ground sensors, helicopters, hi-def cameras and the addition of a large number of Border Agents will augment this project.

There is never going to be a wall built between this nation and any other .
Accept that and you will be much happier in the long run .
Look for a solution that does not involve a wall but rather a fine and jail sentences for those who hire illegals ,rent them residences , and allow them to enroll in our schools .
If we can not politely turn people away with a no thank you we are not interested in hiring you till you have all the proper paperwork and have come here legally .
Those who have the most to gain by all this are those who work in the government paid jobs that we entrusted to Americans for the betterment of all men and women in this nation .
Yet selective enforcement and even brutal enforcement by police officers has turned this nation into a police state almost .
All it needs is a push in the right direction . Some one to blame and we are all registered and have a permanent number that records every movement you make .
A predator tracks his prey and then does what he wants when he corners it . Like a cat playing with a mouse . The cat is the government and we are the mice all of us except a handful of very evil people .

The whole "Shamnasty" issue is far from dead. They are pulling a fast one with this wall business. They are playing games with the funding, then they will play games with environmental impact studies. They can keep stalling for years while claiming that they fully intend to build it.
Understand this. The liberal democrats want amnesty for illegal aliens and no restrictions on the border. The more liberal "country club"republicans and some moderates want amnesty for the illegal aliens and only limited control of the border.
The average middle class American, including hard working democrats and hard working republicans want the illegals deported and the border closed. They want those who hire them prosecuted, jailed and fined they want those who provide housing for them prosecuted and jailed and fined.
In other words, the vast majority of Americans want our immigration laws enforced. We want those who are seeking to do so legally to be granted access first.

The whole idea is preposterous and impossible. Someone in Bush's cabinet needs to MEASURE the American-Mexican border and then after calculating that gigantic task, add in the cost of installing the manpower.
The Iron Curtain would be in the minor leagues compared to this endeavor.

It should be but I don't believe it will be done. The congress doesn't have the b#lls to do anything to really protect America. Both parties love the cheap labor and are more interested in votes than the tax slaves and workers of this country.,To them its just a game., and at our expense

Probably not before the end times. Bush dosn't want to stop the illegals anyway. He wants to wear us down with debt and unemployment , to set us up for the One World Order.

A wall isn't going to stop illegal immigrants. It might slow them down a little, but it won't stop people searching for work. A person will do almost anything to feed their family.

I doubt that it ever will be constructed to completion and certainly wouldn't hold my breath.
