I currently have a Bachelors in Education and am a 5th grade teacher. I would like to be a school psychologist but later (post doctorates) do clinical child psychology.

I would need to get my Master degree in Educational Psychology.
however....
Is this ok?
Can I have a masters in educational psychology and then switch
and a doctorates in another psych. area?

Anything is possible. Some of the prerequisites for a Ph.d in Psychology may require some classes outside the scope of Educational Psychology. Technically speaking, you should consult the school you are interested in obtaining your Masters and Ph.d and find out precisely what extra classes you need to take during your Masters program.

what about a master of education in Counselling Psychology (which is what i have). I can work as a school counsellor and am also able to work in private practice. However, to be an actual "clinical" psychologist, one needs either a master/phd/psyd in clinical psychology.

you could do your masters in ed. psych then later apply to clinical psych programs, that should be no problem.

I was a teacher--a B.A. + a graduate yr at UC Berkeley for a Calif teacher's credential. I later went back and got an MA in Gudiance and Counseling. They gave a LOT of practical counseling experience and a lot more, I think, than a psych MA. I also added an EDS, just for the training. I LOVED the 21 yrs' work w/troubled adolescents in treatment facilities--and w/Family Therapy training, their familes as well. In my experience, an MA and Ph.D. in Psych leads to testing--a lot!!!! I LOVED working directly with the teens and their families.
