Sounds like it has been corrupted, a file or two are no longer working as it should. Uninstall your browser via Add/Remove, then download and install the browser again. This should fix any issue you are experiancing.
One thing you could attempt first is to do a Restore Point back to a date when your IE browser was working properly. The issue is anything you have installed since the restore point will also be lost and need reinstalling. I would try the first option, and then do a restore point if that fails.
If removing and installing a new instance of IE doesn't work I would seriously suggest you take your system to a repubable repair shop. Removing and re-installing should do the trick and if it doesn't it could mean you are infected. It sounds like you are less experianced, and there isn't any shame in that, so there isn't any shame in taking your system to somebody who is more skilled and have that person fix this issue for you.
Good luck and have a great weekend.

for XP users only
start up in safe mode (F8)
go into the following folders and delete all the contents
kill everything in them
C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
after that scan for virus and spyware if u have the program/s
then restart in normal startup and see if this continues. If it does then i strongly and
urgently request you to reinstall your Operating System
Then when u get connected to the net
download
http://firefox.com and use this instead of Internet Explorer
