According to: http://www.ehow.com/how_2046504_buy-pet-fox.html

"Fennec foxes are the most popular exotic pet fox. They are the smallest of all foxes and are a creamy white color. The foxes can be easily trained, but they are diggers so they need safe enclosures. Although other types of foxes are sometimes kept as pets, the fennec is usually a better option for those who want a pet fox."

They recommend seven steps in your quest to get a pet fox, including one very important step - find out if it is legal in your state. Many states do not allow fox of any sort to be kept as pets. Some allow it, but require the owner to have a special permit.

Of course, you would get your pet fox from a reputable breeder. It is illegal in all states to capture a wild fox and keep it as a pet.

Pay very close attention, also, to step number one in their list - "Consider whether a fox is the right pet for you. Take into consideration your lifestyle, habits, living arrangement and budget. Research pet foxes to see if their personality, needs and care is something that you want to take on."

It is not enough that you think a fox is cute, and it would be cool to have as a pet. You need to realize that a fox has very special housing and feeding needs. You don't just open a can of dog food and then snap on a leash and take it to the local dog park. Also, a fox is primarily a nocturnal animal. Can you and the fox adjust to each other's schedules?

Another consideration is finding a veterinarian in your area that would have the expertise to handle any health problems that would occur. The time to find a good vet, experienced with exotic pets, is NOT after the animal gets sick. You need to make certain that you can find one before you get the fox.

Do a lot more research. Follow the steps outlined on that website. Make sure that a fox is really the right pet for you BEFORE you get one. Be a responsible pet owner.

Fennec Foxes are the only ones you want as a pet.

The others don't get tame enough to live in a house. Even on property, and raised by humans, they will prefer to be far away from people as adults.

FF's have been bred over the last few years for good temperment, and do better in homes.

MAKE NO MISTAKE!!
It's not like having a cat or dog, you have to make allowances for potty training issues they may have, and they can be a little more nippy (and cause more damage) than traditional pets.

Do lots of research before you get any pet, but it's most important when considering an "exotic" pet.

Fennec Foxes are wild animals and would not make good pets. They are small and cute and that's why people want them, but wildlife are not the same as pets. If you think you can treat this like a dog think again. Besides in most areas you cannot keep wildlife in residential areas if they are in captivity. Just dont do it. Stop thinking that exotic wildlife is the same as buying a dog- it's for the best interest of the animal. It will be miserable living in a house. Do some research instead of buying "cute" animals as pets.

They're illegal in many places. You'd have to find a vet trained in exotics, and have to deal with special diets for the animal.

If you're not educated in what the species needs to stay healthy and happy, you're not ready to have one. There's a steep learning curve with exotics and not everyone is able to give the care, time or money to keep them in good health.

Bunnies also have big ears and make better pets.
