Your best bet would be to take your coin to a local coin dealer. They will be able to tell you so much more by evaluation the condition of the coin. They will also know the amount minted and what it is going for in today's market.

Try posting pictures on this website (there are many coin experts here that can help you evaluate it - there also may be people willing to buy if you are trying to sell):

The 1851 large cent has a value of around $17.50 in grade good to around $38 in extra fine grade. Values differ with intermittent grades. There is a variety that is 1851 over 81 that is worth a little more such as $21 to $120 in circulated grades.A grade good coin has details on Liberty's head partly visible with even wear on date and legends. A grade of fine is all hair lines visible hair cords uniformly visible, value $21 for just the 1851 not over date. In grade extra fine all hair lines must be sharp. Hope this gives you an idea of value. Values listed are about what a dealer would pay, figure a little less.

It largely depends on the condition of the coin. You can probably find a grading book in a local library or take it to a coin dealer to be graded.

Something in average circulated condition would retail for about $30.00.
