I am planning on voting for Ron Paul who is a libertarian, but he is trying to get the Republican nomination...
So would I have to register as a Republican or something? (Or can I just be independent and vote in it)

What day will the election be held (I live in California)?

Just go register to vote. If you put down as republican you can't vote in every election. Some elections are only democrat. Ask the registration place about liberal. I think democrat is better and you can vote who and when you want to.

First thing... become an educated voter! Don't forget to read up on the issues and candidates that you are most interested in.

Also, the primaries in California will be hold February 5 - the suggested last day to register to vote in California is January 22, 2008. To vote in the primaries you must be registered with a party and then can only vote for that party.

Primaries are for party members - you become a "party member" by voting in the primary. If you vote in the Republican primary for Ron Paul (Good candidate) you cannot cross the street and then vote in the Democrat Primary to stop Hillary (Bad candidate).

Call your County Clerk's office and ask where the Republic party primary is going to be held in your precinct and when.
Or call the Ron Paul campaign office in your area and ask them the same question.

Lots of us independents are going to be voting as Republicans to support Ron Paul. We generally vote Democrat to stop the candidate that we oppose (you just vote for any Democrat jerk other than the criminal you oppose)

In the general election you can vote for who ever you like. You are not obliged to vote for any party in the general election.

The primary just decides who will be the party candidate. There will be Ron Paul (Republican) and Not Hillary (Democrat) plus a whole field of other candidates from the Green party, The Communist Party, The Socialist Party, and the Party last week.

Check this link out. It is specific to California.
Since Ron Paul is running for the Republican nomination, you would mark yourself as Republican. You would be bound to that Primary Election, but you could vote for anybody you want in the general election.

Um, because of the fact we could face it, whilst a contest exists, human beings pull out the stops and pull no punches. needless to say, the customary applicants have been going to attack one yet another with the worst factors they could think of of. yet nevertheless, Obama confirmed human beings something. He confirmed that possibly, the prestige quo isn't what's right for this usa. In different words, inspite of politics ruled by employing incrementalism, extremely everyone seems to be getting bored stiff with the previous take care of. they want sparkling new blood instead. So on the tip of the day, Edwards, Clinton and Biden feared what Obama represented on the time, and attacked him how they knew perfect. yet now, the Democratic occasion could desire to be united and all of that battling falls to the wayside and that they help him, they not oppose him. because of the fact the contest is not intraparty. Its interparty - Democrats against Republicans. they have no extra suitable pastime in attacking the presidential nominee of their very very own occasion, which would be extremely frankly stupid.

It depends on your state law. In most states, you would have to declare yourself a republican to vote for him in some others not.
