I could tell from the trailer this is gonna suck. I mean taking Jim Carrey the rubber-faced guy with great comedy into something this weird and off the wall is just ridiculous. He seemed obsessed with one number over the whole movie from what I heard, so its gotta stuck. Summer had plenty of great movies like Transformers, Bourne Ultimatum, Rush Hour 3, Ratatouille, and Shrek 3. 23 just sucked monkey balls.

I think the movie couldn't figure out what it wanted to be. At times, it wanted to be a touching, heartfelt drama like the Truman Show, at times it wanted to be just slightly over the top like Fun with Dick and Jane, and it kept trying really, really hard to maintain a film-noir atmosphere, only to break it with a larger-than-life Jim Carry moment. Jim Carry goes out of his way to prove he has range a lot (although he hasn't tried action movies yet, probably a matter of personal preference), but he's always at his best when he avoids playing everyday people, something he tried to do roughly halfway through The Number 23. Really, if he stayed away from everyman, Jack Black territory, and just stuck to the weirdos the rest of us identify with, he'd be amazing.

As is, The Number 23 is just another step in his endless crusade to break the Ace Ventura, In Living Color mold he made for himself early on in his career.

Maybe he can't be Humphrey Bogart or Peter Sellers (although he did pull off Andy Kaufman), or whoever he's trying to be. But if he just starts letting himself go a little bit, he could be Belushi without the drugs. And that, I think everyone can agree, would just rock.

Actually, in the end it was okay, but.. 2/3rds was boring as all hell.. I actually got up and walked away for 5 minutes.. and then when I came back there was some actual plot.. and then it ended.. the end was interesting, but since the end was so short.. I wasn't impressed with the movie as a whole..

It wasn't what I expected it to be. I thought it was all right. I've seen better though - But Jim did very good acting.

It was interesting enough to keep me hooked on for the whole movie.

He's cute too.

So that helped a bit ;)

I thought it was dark and depressing. It definately didn't live up to the hype. I'm just glad I didn't pay to see it at the theater.
For a rental, I guess it's ok if you need to kill a couple of hours.
