My paper-boy is an over-weight 15 year old boy with no physical limitations other than an extra 30-40 lbs. His mother drives him from house to house to deliver his papers. I live in a small town where the houses are no more that 10-20 ft. away from each other.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think this boy should be walking?

I use to deliver papers as a preteen. I had the job of doing my street. So not more than 70 homes. But the papers can get really heavy. Trust me if he walked with those papers he'd lose weight! I did!
My dad would help me Saturday mornings when there was the newspaper plus the penny saver.
I personally think the mother needs to put her foot down and tell him to walk.

Kids are coddled these days. Where have you been that you didn't know that? For cryin' out loud, they even give trophies to members of the last place little league team so that their precious feelings won't be hurt. No wonder many of them have such a hard time of adjusting once they make it to adulthood and the problems that go with it...

you don't sound real happy about it but to tell you the truth, I wouldn't be either. It's almost like it's not HIS job but hers as she carts him all over. I'm sure it's not creating a great work ethic let alone independence and pride. Maybe for Christmas you could get him a pedometer(step counter).

He could use the exercise. Walking would be very good for him. His mother needs to realize this and to stop spoiling him.

OMG that is so funny! Why not ride a bike and lose some weight?

Hey there Happy! He should be either walking or riding his bike. I hope he tips his mom well.

I just hope his mother does not complain about the price of gas when she is needlessly wasting it.
