The guy above me is right:
1988 - Production begins on the first Geo Metro models at Suzuki's plant in Hamamatsu, Japan.
I'm pretty sure they stayed being built there at least up until 1994.

It wasn't made in Yugoslavia, but instead halfway around the world in Japan. The Metro a friend had was nothing more than a rebadged 3 cylinder Suzuki.
