If they are outside, building anthills in your yard, you can sprinkle baby powder on the anthills and it will smother most of them. If they are entering your house you can sprinkle borax around your foundation and across doorways. Borax is sold as 20 Mule Team Borax in the laundry section of most larger supermarkets. It is made by Dial Corporation.

These are much safer methods than a lot of the chemicals and pesticides that are on the market. If you are having trouble with them inside your house, make sure you do not have standing water such as pet dishes, and even pet foods sitting around. These are very attractive to ants, as are any sugary or sweetened foods that are easy for them to get to.

I own a couple of those decorative fountains, and cannot use them if we are having a high ant infestation season. So they get cleaned up and put away until fall and winter.

Sugar bowls should not be left out on counters or they will have a party.

Wiping counters and shelves with white vinegar will also help.

Bay leaves (whole) placed on shelving where dry food and grocery items are stored will repel ants and many other unwanted pests that are attracted to food. I replace the bay leaves every season. Dollar stores and the Christmas Tree Shops are great places to purchase the bay leaves rather than the spice section of stores. No need to be paying top dollar for pest repellent.

Hope this helps you, have a good day.

There are many different kinds of ants, all looking for good things to eat, like wood, concrete and food. Ants are also attracted to the inside and outside of a home at different times of the year. Call your local cooperative extension agent to find out what's in your area.
The cleaner your kitchen, the less attractive it will be to ants. Don't leave any tempting tidbits of food around and wipe up crumbs quickly. If you see a marching army, sprinkle boric acid or borax powder along the trails. You can also pour these powders around the entrances and exits of your home, but keep them away from pets and small children. Boric acid can be toxic when ingested in large amounts or in small quantities over a long period of time.
-You can also use a organic spray like green light products

First you take away their favorite snacks. Which are sugar , jams, cakes and crumbs of all kinds. Sweep or vacuum when ever finished in the kitchen or dinning room. Replace foodstuffs to the fridge. Find out where they are coming from, corner this area off, this way if you have small children or pets, they wont get Black Pepper in their eyes. Place the black pepper in and around the entrance to their tunnels. The ants will then carry this into the egg-laying queen´s nest. The egg-laying queen will then move the ants out. It won´t kill them but they will move. Some people suggest poring boiling water over them or into the tunnel. But this has very little effect as the water never reaches far enough in to kill the egg-laying queen. Sometimes ants stage a wet weather invasion of homes, to escape their water logged nests. They will leave when the weather becomes dry outside , but if you take away their favorite snacks they will have to find food elsewhere

Antrid. It's like a special honey that you can buy, the ant's come to it and eat it and it kills them. Place it near their home.

If the ants are in your house, I have heard that you can wipe down your counter tops with white vinegar, and spray where they are coming in with the vinegar as well.
