Not really. All of the answers so far have been yes, but it depends on what you mean by "drawing." Can one teach themselves how to play the violin? Or could you teach yourself to be a composer of classical music. I don't think so.

There is a style of art, perhaps it is a school, called "Outsider" art. It is art made by people with no formal art training at all. Some of their art, some of their drawings are beautiful, BUT to really get why it is beautiful, you need to have gone to art school.

So sure, you can teach yourself to draw, but not draw well.

Anyone can draw. The problem is no one teaches them how anymore. Art in the public schools is frequently the first thing cut when the budget is cut. If you look at curriculum in the 19th and early 20th centuries art was a big part of the curriculum. People then were taught to think, not given step by step instructions. No one told them they couldn't draw. It was expected that everyone could draw. Drawing is learning how to think. Learning how to see. Comparing shapes, angles, values, etc. Get the book, Drawing On the Right Side of the Brain", by Betty Edwards

Sure someone can do that. You'd be surprised at how powerful the human mind is. It sounds corney, but what they say is true : knowledge is power. People taught computers how to operate, and they're smart right ? They even made robots. So I'm pretty sure that if they can find things to help cure diseases and program computers that they can teach themselves to draw a few lines. The only one smarter than any human is God! ( other beings too, but God being THE smartest - He knows everything + more !)

yes i once saw one of my cousins drawing something and after that i got inspired to draw too i didn't know anything about drawing i didnt care if my pictures were just stick figures but after a while of drawing you pick up a few things here and there art classes definitely help to see different art styles and techniques like the person above me said practice a lot or else your skills will start to fade away

Yes, I done it and still do it now. You can go on sites to learn how to draw in different ways to get your own drawing style, or you can buy some drawing books from an art store or amazon.com. Also, inorder to get better in drawing you have to draw about everyday.

I have absolutely no doubt.

All it takes is practice. Anyone with decent vision sense, (and some who don't!) can sketch from real life and, given enough time and a genuine interest in improving skills, can develop a fine eye and sense of what looks and feels "right."

It does not always mean a perfectly accurate, "realistic" rendering, but a good estheticly pleasing talent can be learned. Good coaching helps, as well as some fine guide books available, but all it takes is practice.

if you really want to draw you can teach yourself

you can use books if you want but just drawing the same objects from different views can work as well

plus everyone has a different drawing style so don't compare your abilities to others

Start a collection of "how to draw" books, draw as much as possible-make it a habbit, the more you draw, the better you'll get.-(I carry a pad of paper & pencils wherever I go in a fanny-pack, or my larger stuff in a packpack. (my favorite place to draw, doodle, etc. is while having coffee in the cafe's, clubs, etc.)-I'll draw up something & leave it as a tip if they request it, (roses for the women, their face drawn up as a characature or cartoon, or-whatever) & I'll sell drawings off & on, -it's a way to get noticed.-good luck.

Absolutely yes! There are hundreds of drawing and painting books out there. Read through it to understand some basic technique and practice, practice, practice! There is no substitute.

Of course!!! A little profesional help can, well help, but you can teach your self. They started off teaching them selves. Everyone does just about. THink about little kids they just draw what they see through their eyes.
