Hi, I'm completely lost when it comes to algebra. Please, explain step by step how you solved the equation. And any suggestions of websites that help you understand algebra clearly. Please don't suggest quickmath.com, it just solves the answers but it doesn't help at all.
Thanks,

The answer above looks good to me, but I'm gonna try to explain it anyway.

15 - g = 23 - 2g

you have to get the numbers with the numbers and the letters with the letters. I remember one of my teachers used to say ("The animals with the animals, fruit with fruit")...I know it sounds stupid but it always helped me remember... So in this case, numbers are fruit, letters animals.

(FRUIT: 15 and 23, ANIMALS: g, 2g)

Okay, so get the animals with the animals, fruit with fruit. Don't forget that what you do to one side, you have to do to the other side too, or it won't be balanced.

15 - g = 23 - 2g
-15 -15

-g = 8 - 2g (now animals)
+2g +2g

g=8

Feel free to message me if you need more explanation

Your plan is to put the letters on one side of the equals sign and numbers on the other.

So move the -2g to the left to go with the -g that is already there, but remember, when ever you cross the equals sign you reverse the operation so the -2g becomes +2g like this:
15 - g + 2g = 23
Now do the same for the +15 to get:
- g + 2g = 23 - 15
Add like terms to get:
2g - g = g for the left side and
23 - 15 = 8 for the right so you end up with
g = 8
This is your answer!
one animal equals eight fruits.

first of all u know u have two different terms( the numerals and the unknown 'g'). of course u cant add different terms together ie 2-g. so, u group the like terms together; one in the left side of the equal sign and another on the right side of the equal sign.when u are moving a value to the other side of the equal sign, it automatically changes its sign ie +, -. so, lets take the unknowns to the left and the knowns to the right is it? lets do it. -2g will go to the other side and become +2g, and 15 will go to the other side and become -15. it will be something like this: 2g-g=23-15, and therefore when u solve u have g=8. if u try to prove ur answer right, u get
15-8=23-16=7. for the websites, i'll give it to u, u can get to me thro mail. cheers.

The trick to solving for g is to get g all by itself on one side of the equation (in other words, you want numbers on one side of the equals side and the variable, in this case, g, on the other).

One way to start is to move the 15 from the left side to the right side. Since that 15 is positive, you would subtract 15 from both sides.

This would give you:

-g = 8 - 2g

Now you want to get the -2g from the right side to the left side. To do this, since it's negative 2g, you want to add 2g to both sides.

So you'd get 2g-g = 8

2g minus g = g

so you wind up with g = 8 and you are done.

To check your work, put 8 in where you see g in the equation you started with:

15 - 8 = 23 - 2(8)

15- 8 = 23 - 16

7 = 7

Therefore the equation is true when g = 8 (and only when g is 8).

Does that help?

When there's a variable in the equation, you want to get the 'g' on one side, and all the other numbers on the other side. Therefore, to 'move' the 'g' to the right side of the equation, you would ADD g, and whatever is done to one side is done to the other (balancing):

15-g=23-2g
+g........+g
15=23-g

Now, since you want the 'g' to be 'alone', you subtract 23 and subtract it from the left side also:

15 = 23-g
-23 -23

-8 = -g, two negatives cancel, so...
G=8

you just need to solve for g.

first step is to get the like terms on one side of the equation. We will start by subtracting 15 from both sides to give the following:

-g = 23 - 15 -2g

second step we will add 2g to both sides to get the following:

2g - g = 23 - 15

we now subtract 23 from 15

2g - g = 8

we now subtract g from 2g to get:

g = 8

15-g=23-2g
15 - g + 2g = 23 - 2g + 2g; add 2g to both sides
15 + g = 23 + 0
g + 15 - 15 = 23 - 15; subtract 15 from both sides
g + 0 = 8
g = 8

15-g=23-2g
arrange the terms(-2g will go to another side and it will become +2g)(15 will come to another side then it will become -15) now equation will be this:
-g+2g=23-15
g = 8

15-g=23-2g
You can move any term from one side of the = sign to the other as long as you change its sign.
So 2g-g = 23-15
g = 8
