The Citroën C6, is the safest car ever tested by Euro-NCAP.
"This is the first car in the world to have an active safety system specifically designed to protect pedestrians in the event of an accident. Building on the systems that debuted in the Citroën C4, the new C6 takes this a stage further with a bonnet that pops upwards in the event of an accident with a pedestrian with the specific aim of reducing pedestrian injuries."
It has nine airbags, a head-up instrument display that puts essential driver information on the windscreen right in front of the driver, active suspension that reacts to bumps in the road, active headrests, a speed sensitive rear wing, lane departure warning system, front and rear peripheral radar, low pressure diffusion ventilation & laminated side windows.
Euro-NCAP awarded the Citroën C6 the first-ever four star award for pedestrian safety which, combined with five stars for occupant safety and four stars for child safety, provides the C6 with the best-ever result.

Medium sized cars, Honda, Volvo, toyota are known for saftey.
I was hit head on in my 07 honda civic coupe by a ford explorer going 40 mph, and my car flew about 50 feet from where i got hit, but i walked away just fine. I wasnt even sore the next day, and the worse injury i got was a little scratch on my thumb. Even though i was hit by a huge SUV in my little car, i was just dandy.

There is a train of thought that suggests that a 'safe' car wouldn't be full of airbags, crumple zones & high quality steel. I should know, I've driven a Citroen 2CV! If you drive a car you know would offer you no protection whatsoever, you'd drive a LOT better, trust me.
The bigger & more indestructable-feeling the car, the worse the driving, look at Volvos & 4x4s to prove this theory!
