My parents are visiting me in Seattle. We were looking to spend a night in Brittish Columbia. Does anyone have an opinion on whether Victoria or Vancouver is a better place to go? We're trying to keep on a reasonable budget, it's just one night. None of us have been to BC, except my sister on a ski trip.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

I really like both, Victoria you have Buchart Gardens, the Parliament buildings, Tea at the Empress Hotels,
Vancouver you have Walking along the Sea Wall (in Downtown), Shopping, Stanley Park (which has a nice zoo&Aquarium;hikes,Walks)
also think about going to arthurfrommersbudgettravel.com
Good luck with your choice, have a great time with your parents in B.C.
P.S. Snoqualmie Falls is one of my favorites in the Seattle and surrounding areas to see.(for visitors )

For older people, I would suggest Victoria. There's plenty to see and do there that a lot of older people enjoy. There's Buchard Gardens, the Legislature Buildings, Beacon Hill Park, Tea at the Empress.

Vancouver and Victoria can both be pricey, but I think Vancouver is higher. IMO the transit and the roads in and around Victoria are easier to navigate than Vancouver.

The only thing is that if it's just one night and your parents are coming from Seattle, they may find that much of their day is taken up with travel to Vancouver Island. If they can budget the time in, great, but if not then Vancouver would be better simply because of it's proximity to the Washington-BC border. I will quickly state that the trip getting to Vancouver island is very beautiful, and that may be very well worth the extra time it takes.

Other than the ferry costs both trips would cost about the same. I prefer Victoria to Vancouver although both have much to recommend for an overnight trip.

In Victoria you have the Provincial Museum & IMAX theatres. Of course the Parliament Buildings and Butchart Gardens. There is a lot to do there and the area around the museum has an English feel to it.
In Vancouver you have Stanley Park, the Vancouver Art Gallery, Granville Island Market and a number of other activities.

A car is more necessary in Vancouver than Victoria to see the sights so if you do not want to drive a lot I would recommend Victoria.

Victoria is a lot smaller than Vancouver and is a ferry ride away too. The ferry can get expensive if you're driving and it takes a while to get to the island (1 hour and 30 minutes on average). Depending on your budget and time line, i would stay in the Vancouver area because you would spend more time traveling instead of relaxing...

Whatever you choose, BC is the best place to visit!! hope you like it!!
