Hip hop music is a style of popular music. It is usually composed of two elements: rapping (also known as emceeing) and DJing. When combined with breakdancing and graffiti art, these are the four components of hip hop, a cultural movement which began in New York City in the 1970s, predominantly by African Americans and Latinos. The term rap music is sometimes used synonymously with hip hop music, though it is also used to refer specifically to the practice of rapping, which is one component of hip hop

there is not any longer a distinction between Hip Hop and Hip-Hop, as they simply have a splash between them. What you should understand is that "Hip Hop" and "Rap" are 2 various issues. Hip Hop is the final lifestyle, the stream, the existence variety, that has Rap track in it. Rap is the call, the form of the track that people in contact in Hip Hop lifestyle make. it is an particularly complication-loose mistake.

Your instructor is way off base. "Hip hop music" and "rap music" mean virtually the same thing. However, some people associate the term "rap" with the more mainstream variety of the genre (which nowadays often includes R&B or pop elements) and reserve the term "hip hop" for the variety of the genre that stays closer to the roots of hip hop music (i.e. - speaking on social and/or political issues, storytelling, bragging about one's lyrical skills while roasting another emcee, etc.).

But to be really specific, hip hop itself is a culture. Rap music or hip hop music (specifically, emceeing) is just one element of that culture. The other elements of the culture are graffiti, breakdancing (aka - breakin'), DJing and a more recently added element, beatboxing.

You are correct, and the instructor is wrong.

Hip-hop is a movement of which rap is a part. There are distinctions between the syles, and between some rappers and hip-hop artists. Obviously many performers fall somewhere in-between, and could be considered either.

Wow, that guy, isn't certified to teach about hip-hop. Hip-hop is the culture. Which consists of 4 things. DJ's, breakdancers(b-boys/girls), MC's, and grafitti artists. We could go more into detail but we won't. Anyway, recently, the more "socially aware" or "politically aware" form of rap music was to be known as hip-hop. Because of this, rap also changed. Rap at many times describes more of a struggle in a person's life while trying to survive in the streets or bad neighborhoods. Hip-hop music also has this incorporated into it. Due to the media rap is sometimes known as violent, promoting drug use, etc., but that's an unfair stereotype. That's it I guess. But I sometimes use the two words interchangeably. It doesn't bother me. If you remember then in A Tribe Called Quest's song "Bonita Applebaum", Q-Tip refers to his music as "rap songs". But it's a matter of opinion sometimes.

hiphop is not a dance. it is a culture. emceeing, graffiti, breakdancing, and djing to be exact. if you are referring what people mean, i love hiphop music, not rap. then they usually mean rap that doesnt talk about jewelry, hoes, cars, rims, doing some sort of dance, etc. also, hiphop is usually underground, and in my opinion, better.
