hi!
the 1.83 and 2.2 Ghz means your processor's speed. the new duo has a speed almost twice the normal processor speed.
if you have 1.83Ghz, it means it runs to about 3.66GHz in speed.. But latest games only require 1.5Ghz processors.. what's important is that you should have bigger RAM capacity (like 1GB ram) and large video (graphics) memory (like 256mb).. duo 1.83 and 2.2 wont have a big difference...
i suggest you prioritize your laptop's RAM and video card memory if you want it fast..

Hi, Basically the ghz tells you the speed the processor is running at the higher the number normally the better. However there is a differance between AMD and Intel (core 2) but im waffleing on here and as the laptops are both Intel Core 2 Duo the 2.2Ghz will be quicker and it will make a difference with the frames rate you see in games also it will be better for future games so definately go for 2.2ghz one.
Hope this Helps

The difference is not large, since even a 1.83 Ghz Core 2 Duo is much faster than a 3Ghz earlier generation processor (Pentium-D, Pentium-M etc)
Yes the 2.2 Ghz CPU is faster and all other things being equal faster is better. However, for gaming the MOST important element is the graphics card- and on laptops good ones are hard to find.
You can't upgrade the video card after the fact like desktops, so you'll need to buy a machine that has a good one to begin with.
Look for GeForce Go 7600 or better, or Radeon X1600 or better. Here's a somewhat dated rundown of the options for laptops/notebooks- it doesn't include the new DX10 mobile video options (8000 series Nvidia, 2000 series ATI) but it's still useful.
See 2nd link- these are laptops with good gaming video chipsets:

GHz refers to frequencies in the billions of cycles per second range. Meaning that more GHz you have the faster it goes. But you knew that. The more GHz you have the faster your computer is going to be able to transfer information. The Core Duo means that you have 2 processors working together. Whether you want it faster is up to you and your money. Check to see if you need it. Look at game requirements for the games you want to play. When buying a computer its best to go with the best you can afford. Either way. Your good.

the 2.2ghz one is the one you should go for. it is comparitively faster than the 1.83 ghz. CPU power is defined by the number of cycles of instructions it can process every second . ghz means billions of cycles per second. 2.2 ghz is def better in terms of gaming utility. Def look for a graphics card in your laptop if u want to play games

You are referring to the CPU clock speed.
2.2ghz cpu's TEND to run faster than 1.83ghz (but not always)
1.83ghz cpu's will tend to run COOLER (laptops run hot) and use less POWER (batteries last longer).
Unless you actually need the extra processing power (for sound mixing or video editing) I'd lean towards the 1.83ghz so it will run cooler and the battery will last longer.

Huge.
You will also want to make sure that you have a decent graphics card (in fact, this is more important than the processor). You will not be able to run any games using integrated graphics.
