I have a low sperm count. My regular doctor suggested the IUI. What do we need to do to get this done? What kind of doctor do we go to? Do we go together? How is it all done? How much does it cost? Does it work????

Any information would be appreciated...

Some OB/Gyn's can do IUI but it would be in your best interest to find a Reproductive Endocrinologist.
You will both meet with the dr and discuss a plan. He may order additional testing as well. If your wife ovulates regularly then they can do an unmedicated cycle, but for the best odds they will probably give her Clomid to stimulate her ovaries. When she is near ovulation, the dr will either give her a shot to make her ovulate or have her use urine tests at home, and when the time is right you will go to the office. You will give a sample--ejaculate into a sterile cup. The sample will be spun and washed and mixed into a sterile solution and loaded into a catheter. An hour or so after you give your sample your wife will meet with the dr and they will probably do an ultrasound and then insert the thin catheter through her cervix and into her uterus. Your sperm will be put in her uterus.
The cost varies, but you should expect to spend at least $200 per cycle but possibly as much as $500.
The odds per cycle are about 15-20%.

hi there, IUI is definitely a good way to achieve pregnancy, it's best if you go to an RE (fertility specialist), basically they will collect sperm from you (you can bring it from home in a container they'll give you) and they'll use it to artificially put it in your wife so she can get pregnant, the cost vary from doctor to doctor but you should shop around before commiting to make sure you're getting a good price, you can ask an RE online for free to get more advice and information, try www.FertilityTies.com
good luck!!
