Let's not start calling it a big hole. It's not a black hole. It was just a pocket of empty space. Larger than previously seen in the universe. It was just discovered this week by the University of Minnesota. How about giving them some time to explore their data before we start jumping to conclusions about what may or may not have caused it?!

First off I've heard this story from a few different sources including ABC. Granted that doesn't make the hole exist but I'll consider it does for my discussion. Bear that in mind.

Well if your one to believe in the big bang then you could say it was a quantum fluctuation that occurred during the cosmic inflation period. It is simply a place in space where gravity failed to clump together mass, warranting the apparent empty space.

For those who don't like the big bang try another way to look at it. As a probability wave. In an universe of near infinite proportions it is absolutely possible that some area of space would be a little emptier than the other. It is also possible that one area of space is a lot emptier than the other. And the first rule of probability is that everything that is possible will happen in time.

My knowledge of black holes is very limited so read the following as a skeptic. One could assume that if there was a large black hole there, or several black holes acting together, that it's possible given enough time that all the matter in the region has been compressed to virtually nothing. I think if you wanted to determine without doubt whether or not black holes were responsible for this than you would need to have years of education, time and resources to study this, and a beautiful mind.

The real question to ask is whether this happened during the creation or formation of the universe, or whether something happened along the way to cause such a thing. I kinda of like leaning twards the creation/formation period.

It's a vast region where we cannot see, recieve or
measure the presence of matter or significant energy emmisions. Lieing in between stands of
galatic superclusters. There are many such areas that
we can percieve however the one under discussion is
particuarly large.

larger even than your local Walmart parking lot.

BTW; The socalled Primorial Big Bang, and subsiquent cosmic expansion has no, and never had a "centre" what-so-ever. As it is Space/time itself
that's expanding.

Luv U all, ba, bye,,,

Calling it a 'hole' is actually a very misleading description, as it isn't really anything like a black hole, a wormhole or any other kind of anomaly in spacetime. It is in fact nothing more than a giant intergalactic void, that just happens to be a lot bigger than your average intergalactic void. It's about as much like a black hole as a white dot on a piece of dark paper is like a rip in the paper, just to give you an analogy.

Perhaps its the center of the Big Bang? I guess that would all depend on its size and relative location in the universe. Our understanding of the universe is rather limited considering that we don't even know what dark matter is nor dark energy.

The article says it isn't a black hole. It could just be that something is just blocking all the spectrum from reaching us giving the apearance that nothing is there.

It might have dark energy repelling matter.Scientists can't see dark energy so they would say that it is a big hole.Of cours after consecutive investigations they can find what is there.

Well it is actualy a "Void" I don't know much about what that it but it sounds like there is nothing there no matter, no dark matter no nothing.
