.. would people stop complaining about the MOBOs being racist?

If so, i fully support the renaming of the Brit awards and NmE awards since they are in effect awards for music of white origin. The renaming would make things more accurate.

Agony aunt, i appreciate that we would all love this utopia where all music of all backgrounds was celebrated, but the reality is that Brits/NmE awards showcase mostly music by white artists, and so MOBO was introduced to redress the balance. The utopia you present is wonderful but it doesnt exist.

Claire C, who decides whether music is of notable standard or not? Who will police that?

THe MOBO awards was set up because the other award ceremonies (Brits etc) didnt effectively represent those music genres TYPICALLY enjoyed by black people (i.e. hip hop , r & b, reggae etc). It is just one show, once a year, and i think its shown on BBC 2!!

there is no longer something incorrect with MOBO being called MOBO. It emphasises music genres that have been started out, predominantly, by using black human beings. The MOBOs does settle for non-black artists yet stresses that their music has some black effect (e.g. soca, r 'n' b). besides the undeniable fact that, i do no longer think of the Brits could be replaced to MOWO because of the fact the Brits emphasises a nationality no longer a race (i.e. music produced by using British persons). Plus, particularly some Brit music is motivated or area of music genres that are no longer white-originated. British music as we communicate could be different and you'll be able to't say that for the period of ordinary terms white human beings made this happen by using renaming it MOWO. If the Brits became replaced to MOWO, then virtually each and all the artists as we communicate could no longer be nominated for an award. Even Rock won't be in a position to be claimed as music of white foundation. (Rock 'n' Roll had non-white impacts: think of Elvis Presley and the black workers he sang with.)

I object to there being a MOBO awards at all. If the music is good, and a lot of people like it, then we should celebrate it together. Same with the Classical Brits etc. If the music is of notable standard, give it the recognition is deserves.

really music is everyones, each race adds to a music genre, and we owe most of it to the black man really.
