One theory is that the big bang came as a result of a big crush. And that now the universe is still expanding but depending of the amount of matter in the universe, one day the universe might stop expanding and start contracting again into another big crush.

well in the the beginning all matter in the entire universe was compressed into a size of a single atom which then exploded and was known as the big bang - theory only- but hubble telescope partly proves theory right.
