In electronic engineering, DDR2 SDRAM or double-data-rate two synchronous dynamic random access memory is a random access memory technology used for high speed storage of the working data of a computer or other digital electronic device.
It is a part of the SDRAM (synchronous dynamic random access memory) family of technologies, which is one of many DRAM (dynamic random access memory) implementations, and is an evolutionary improvement over its predecessor, DDR SDRAM.
Its primary benefit is the ability to run its bus at twice the speed of the memory cells it contains, thus enabling faster bus speeds and higher peak throughputs than earlier technologies. This is achieved at the cost of higher latency.

I thought I might answer in case you wanted an actual response, and not a cut and paste job. The two are totally different, PC2 denotes DDR2 RAM while just PC denotes DDR RAM, the two types are completely incompatible, so check first to see what type you have. Although honestly, check the one that says PC-5300, it might just be labeled wrong, as I don't know of any DDR RAM that runs that fast.

PC-2 5300 has more pins (Dual Data Rate) To be sure what your motherboard supports run the scan at http://www.crucial.com

PC-xxxx is for ddr (184 pins). PC2-xxxx is for ddr2 (240 pins). mysticman is right, there is no PC-5300.

PC2 has a much faster bandwidth than PC1 (or just PC5300) and also less power consumption. Both are for Intel based machines, not MAC

well pc2 i believe is for mac users while pc is used for windows.
