You can't actually find a discrete (one) value for Y because you have two unknown variables (x and y) and only one equation. However, you can find out what Y is equal to relative to X. You isolate Y on one side of the equation, by applying the same actions to both sides of the =:

5X+6Y=18
1. Subtract 5X from both sides =
6Y=18-5X
2. Divide both sides by 6 =
Y=(18-5X)/6 OR Y=(18/6) - (5/6)X

Here is how you isolate Y

5x + 6y = 18
move the 5x to the other side by inverting
6y = 18 - 5x
do the same with the 6 x y by deviding everything by 6
this would look like this
6y / 6 = (18 - 5x) /6
we know that 6 X Y / 6 is the same as simply Y so simplified...
y = (18 - 5x) / 6

Hope this helps.

The given equation gives the value of y in terms of x and gives the value of x in terms of y.

5x + 6y = 18
6y = 18 - 5x
y = [18 - 5x] / 6

Now different values of y can be obtained for different value of x.

5x + 6y = 18

try to isolate the term with the 'y'

what you can do first is take the 5x term to the other side.

6y = 18-5x

Now to solve for y, divide both sides by 6

y = (18-5x) / 6

There you go!

5x + 6y = 18

Transpose 5x

5x + 6y = - 5x + 18

6y = - 5x + 18

Divide both sides of the equatio by 6

6y / 6 = - 5x / 6 + 18 / 6

y = - 5/6x + 3

5x +6y = 18

6y = 18 - 5x

y = (18 - 5x)/6

You can not get an actualy number unless you have a second equations. so y = (18 - 5x)/6 is the anwser.

When something says "solve for [variable]", you just rearrange the equation so that it's in terms of [variable]. This means adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing to get the variable by itself on one side of the equation.

5x + 6y = 18
6y = 18 - 5x
6y/6 = (18 - 5x)/6
y = (18 - 5x)/6

since there is no other equation so we cannot find value of x and y but
It is a linear equation that represents a line on graph paper u can draw a line with the help of this equation like below
6y=18-5x,
y=(18-5x)/6
now, if x=0 then y= 3,if x=3 then y= 1 so u can draw a line with the help of this equation plot this value on graph paper

5x + 6y = 18
5x + 6y - 5x = 18 -5x
6y = 18 - 5x
6y/6 = 18 - 5x/6
y = 18 -5x/6
