tell me the difference between core duo and core 2 duo?

i am considering two processors t5300 and t 2500 which one is better for college work and a little gaming plus multimedia.if there is a better processor in the same range tell me.thanks

Paul's answer is excellent. For your requirements, the Core 2 Duo is much much better.

Both the T5300 and L2500 are designed as "laptop processors" (lower power consumption, cooler running, so longer battery life, with a trade-off of slower performance than the equivalent "desktop processor").

The L2500 has a clock speed of 1.83-GHz, 2-MB of L2 cache, and a front-side bus (FSB) speed of 533-MHz. The T5300 has these same basic specs (1.73-GHz, 2-MB L2, and 533-MHz FSB), but it includes new features that increase the overall speed and permit 64-bit processing. We've posted links, below, to the detailed specs.

As far as your question about "a better processor in the same range": your range is the T5xxx series. The top processor now in that series is the T5600, which has the same clock speed of 1.83-GHz and the same 2-MB of L2 cache, but it has a faster FSB of 667-MHz and other new technologies.

The current top-of-the-line Core 2 Duo for laptops is the T7700, which has a clock speed of 2.4-GHz, 4-MB of L2 cache, and 800-MHz FSB. The price of this processor is significantly higher.

The processor is the primary but not the only factor in choosing a laptop. Consider the laptop's overall performance, which is affected by the speed of the hard drive and RAM size and speed, as well as the overall weight, battery life, "looks", etc.

The difference between the Core Duo and the Core 2 Duo is main in the architecture of the chips the Core Duo is only 32-bit with about half of the cache memory of the Core 2 Duo, also the Core 2 Duo is 64-bit.

I would recommend the Core 2 Duo as it has considerable performance increases over the Core Duo.

As I understand it: core duo is actually 2 processor chips mounted in the CPU package.

Core2duo is actually 2 processors designed onto 1 larger chip.

In either case the 2 processors share the processing tasks and increase speed in that manner.

I haven't researched the two processors you mentioned but Core2duo is the newer technology and I would recommend that you purchase the fastest one you can afford. I did do some research about a month ago on the prices and the 2.6GHz processor dropped about $180 since last Christmas so the deals are getting better on them.

core duo was the first generation of dual-core chips and core 2 duo is the second generation. Obviously the second generation will be better. The t5300 is better than the t2500.

they are both have 2 cores.

middle is Intel present day microprocessor technologies, that's in its 2d era (subsequently middle 2)... this might b replaced by using the i-sequence (i3, i5 & i7)... middle 2 Duo skill the microprocessor has 2-cores interior your laptop chip... at an analogous time as the middle 2 Solo skill the microprocessor has a million-middle interior your laptop chip... that's extra suited??? relies upon, i think of Intel produce the Solo for laptop to shop extra power utilization...

Core duo implies that it has a dual core, but it doesnt ..Core duo is an artichtecture that helps battery life in mobile computers... core 2 is using 2 processoers.
