Ok, so I'm sure you've all seen the commercial with the guy in the suit with question marks on it telling you how you can get $10,000 to go bck to college, $5,000 to open a bakery, $2000 to get a haircut, etc. I was just curiuos if anyone has bought the book or got it from the library and if so does it work? I can't imagine the book works great, obviously it would probably be like a million times harder than he says but I imagine some of the ideas might work?

What he is selling is how to claim gov't grants, etc. Like any program you have to meet certain requirements to get the $$. If you are after a biz loan then you have to qualify for the small biz admin. which you can do on your own. I did buy one of his book, but it was vague on the "how to". He may have improved by now. Try putting government loans/grants in search and see what you come up with. There is one company that has a full program of name, and how and where to apply for grants, however, you also need to get the grant writer because if you don't know how to do this properly you will never get a grant.

NO -- Definitely not worth it. He makes a good list of grants -- which you can actually get for free from government websites. However, he makes claims that you can get grants for whatever purpose you can think of -- which simply frustrates a lot of people because it is simply UNTRUE.

Try sending letters of requests to those that he lists -- and you will either received silence from the "source of grants" that Lesko lists; or a letter informing you that they don't give grants for the purpose you've specified (that Lesko said would qualify) or they don't give grants to individuals.

If you want FREE information about grants, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support your purposes. Once you find a grant where you can qualify, apply for it at Grants.gov

Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants -- all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently.

Note though that these grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments. Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT - Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program. Individuals especially for personal purposes are not eligible for federal grants.

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women's Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women's business center that will train women entrepreneurs

Well, it works for Matthew Lesko - he makes money from selling the books. Other than that, not likely for the purchasers.

They didn't for us. I found you either had to be very poor, or very rich for any of the grants to apply to you.
