Babies will sleep when they want to but sometimes there are tricks to helping baby fall asleep faster, sleep longer etc. Plus there are first time mom's out there that do not know what to expect or what is normal. Do you have to be so rude?

well first time moms or dads would normally ask this question. they cant imagine how life can be for them in the first few months of their newly-born babies, and the normal frequently asked questions would be,how do they get their babies to sleep thru the night and for how long will their babies would have a normal sleeping schedule. its not that they want Rx for their babies you know. its more on how are they gonna handle the situation when they are into it.

My baby is 4 months old & I sleep in the nursery with her. She wakes up a few times a night, to eat, get changed, she's cold, whatever. My home health nurse told me to not sleep in her nursery, and to not feed her during the night! Her suggestion was that my baby should be able to sleep 12 hrs. through without waking! Of course I think that is wrong. I want to be close to her so that her needs are met throughout the day & night & I think she's crazy for telling me to ignore my baby's needs for 12 hrs., which is 1/2 of a day. I am lucky to be a stay at home mom, so I get my sleep and I like being there when she wakes up during the night. however I assume most ppl. don't get that luxury & would love to get any help they can with getting more sleep. For instance, if they fed rice cereal mixed with baby food before bed, baby will sleep longer without waking for a feeding. That is if the baby is over 4 mo. b/c if not, solids aren't recommended.

It all depends on the individual. Not everyone who has a baby knows about them. Just spend some time here on Yahoo answers and you'll realize that most woman don't have a clue as to their bodies and their cycles and believe all the myths about them. Alot of woman don't even know how they got pregnant let alone how to take care of a baby.
Some people have never spent any real time with an infant before having one and are overwhelmed when their baby comes along.
Have a heart.

No. They want to find some relief from severe sleep deprivation.
Every baby is different. Some sleep through the night from day 1 and others wake up several times a night for months. If your baby is in the latter category, lack of sleep can make you a zombie.

Seems to me you are too concerned about other people's questions and should be asking your own. I am a mother of two children, one is only 8 weeks old right now. I know I wouldn't mind if someone helped me get some more sleep. Every baby is different. I can barely lay my son down, he needs to be held so much to be content.

Some babies have their days and nights mixed up and it's not easy to know what to do when you are getting very little or no sleep. And some babies don't know how to get themselves to sleep without help from their parents, sometimes parents don't know how to teach their babies how to fall asleep on their own. I thought that I had to wait for my son to decide to go to sleep on his own until someone told me to establish a bedtime routine. My son went from being cuddled and rocked until midnight to in his crib sleeping soundly by 8pm. It was pure heaven.

Babies can and should be put on sleep schedules from birth. Knowing how and when, and what kind to implement is hard for new parents who are sleep deprived and exhausted from pregnancy and labor.
Its a very good question to ask .
I had such a concern about us all sleeping, even before my son was born, that from the moment of his birth I set up the same routine to use each day and night. He's slept at night since he was 2.5 weeks old, not because he naturally wanted to, but because its the routine and schedule we put him on.

Some new parents have no clue what to expect when they bring their newborn home. Not everyone has experience with newborns. I know my husband and I didn't when we brought our son home. We had no idea we would suffer such sleep deprivation!
You automatically assume there is something wrong with your child and there is something you should be doing to fix it. I think it's a perfectly normal question.
