It is possible to buy kits to remove most types of locking wheel nuts as you can also buy kits to break into most types of cars, if the keys are lost, I know I sell them but as I am sure you will understand they can only be sold to recognised garages, the best hope you have is to take it to one you will save money in the long run.

Snap On and Mac Tools each carry a wheel lock remover set. You can purchase these for around 120.00 Some tire shops like Discount Tire will remove the locks for 50.00 fyi, if need be. You can try a chisel and a hammer to try to knock it loose, but be careful so you dont damage the rims.

Are you in the AA? All their patrols keep very good tools for taking of wheel locking nuts, we supply all their consumables. If not, then stop and ask a patrolman when you next see one, cross his palm with a few quid, it'll take him 10 mins.

i have done this many times, some times you can get a pair of vice grips, lock on the nut and tap it with a hammer while putting pressure on the vice grips, you need to hit the nut head on.or you can go to the auto part store and buy a stud remover that will fit the nut,and use it to remove, man i wish i could get hands on it.but you can do it and save a pile of money. if you use the vice grips they got to be real tight before you start.

It can be difficult the general idea is it stops people stealing your wheels , drilling works but is messy . I personally MiG weld a bar onto the nut and undo normally

Take it to the garage, have a mechanic do it.
You need to torch it (heat up the lug and stud) then use a pair of vise grips to turn it off.
Too many things can happen if you try it yourself, Burns tarnishing of the rim.

"Instead of taking it to a garage the point of the question is how difficult would it be to do the job myself?"......very.

a garage would have the correct tool to remove it most of your just tire shops like discount don't have the correct tool i would take it to a place that does tires and auto repair they should have it and it really shouldn't cost that much unless they have to break it off
