Freedom of the press is absolutely important everywhere!! You wouldn't be able to type your beliefs freely on this site if you didn't have Freedom of the press -which is a companion "Right" of Freedom of Speech!

It is like asking whether democracy is necessary in India or whether one should have breakfast, lunch and dinner every day! It is part of democracy, a fundamental right enshrined in the constitution and will remain so for ever. Of course, it does not mean there is no room for improvement. There is indeed, and the media while exercising their right should also do so their social responsibility, and avoid sensationalism and acts which may cause social instability!
