Too many martyrs indulge in a self imposed, self indulged life of continuous suffering staked to appealingly cater to the needs of others. They harvest the fruits of self righteousness, arrogance, frustration, and thinly veiled anger. They make their own and others lives miserable. LONG SUFFERING manipulators.......

There is no pride in this and that is why Pride ends when Martyrdom begins......however, this is not a point on a continuum....they are as different as night and day.....

Pride is self satisfaction, sometimes self righteous, or a faulty estimate of one's own virtues. A martyr is one who sacrifices/suffers for a belief, cause or principle. I frankly cannot see a valid connection. Believing oneself to be a martyr might be an individual's perception of SELF, based on excessive self righteousness, but that would never be a link to "martyrdom." Martyr is perceived by others, not by oneself. "Pride" would never end in true martyrdom.

Pride is a manifestation of taking oneself seriously. Martyrdom is a manifestation of taking what you are doing seriously. Not at all the same thing, but easily and often confused in the mind of the proud martyr.

When you are doing an act for the good of someone else, but you want everyone to know it was you.....that's pride.

When you are doing an act for the good of someone else, but you want everyone to know it was God, and you could care less whether you get any recognition or not......that's martyrdom. Most martyrs do not call themselves martyrs. Most martyrs do not get called martyrs until they have passed away.
