It's probably not a stain - it probably faded - alot of times they will fade a funny color - it could be that there was some bleach splashed on it or some bleach left over in the washing machine - that's what it sounds like to me - a bleach stain since it went from purple to orange - in that case you will have to throw it away - sorry

Sounds like a bleach stain. Do you ever use bleach in your machine or on the other clothes that were in with the top. Think you'll need to buy a fabric dye (Dylon or similar) and re-colour the top. Those marks tend not to come out. It wouldn't be an orange top that caused it, purple is much darker than orange. More likely to be bleach. Dyeing clothes is really easy, there are some products you can buy that you can even use to dye clothes in the washing machine safely. Hope you get it sorted. If you're not convinced it,s bleach (i can see it so can't tell either!), try some Vanish Oxy Action, neat on the mark as per the instructions on the tub.

I am sorry, but I don't think there is anything you can do about it. I suspect that you use a powder detergent. Liquid ones are always better as they don't sit on the clothes whilst the machine is filling as powder does which then forms a concentrated area of bleach.
I used to have this problem with an American Whirlpool top loader machine I used for B&B sheets. UK front loaders dilute the detergent before it gets onto the clothes, unlike USA ones where it goes on neat.
In the end I used to let the top loader machine fill up and THEN I added the detergent when the items were submerged.
Whichever type of machine you use, liquid detergent is best.

Oops!
Did you put any bleach in the washer earlier? What you described sounds like something that bleach does to dark colors.
I don't think you can save your top. But you might try re-dyeing it.
Good luck!

It sounds like you have spilled bleach on it, could this be the case? If so there is nothing you can do I am afraid.
