Try disabling all your start startups in msconfig. Then reinstall the driver.

actually, either of these two are the problems,
a. improper resolution settings
b. video card driver not installed

improper resolution settings
if you have a video card, maybe your computer's display is not set to a proper resolution usually after reformatting or repairing windows system files. try to fix it throug
1. right click on empty space on your desktop then select properties
2. select the Settings tab, on the lower left portion, you can adjust the resolution the way you want.
3. click apply, then ok.

it this process doesn't solve the problem, maybe you have a problem in your video card.

Video Card Update (unknown devices)
if your Windows Installation CD did not automatically install the video drivers, it means they don't have the necessary drivers for it. i recommend you to download Driver Detecting Software so that you can install and configure the right drivers for your Video Card. installing the wrong type of drivers will lead to monitor crash, and video hardware crash, this means you will replace and buy a new one. So be sure on the type of drivers you are installing. you can download driver genius professional 2007 so that you can scan for all your unknown devices if it is your real problem, then you can download all drivers for free for your all driver back up needs.

go back to your computers manufacturers site and get the drivers. Make sure theyre up to date. I just did the same thing with my laptop last week. Its just the drivers to the video card. If its a laptop, check the motherboard drivers as well.

768 mb of ram is nothing in today's applications, get 2 GB ram and buy a new video card with 256 mb ram on it.
