More apt way of putting the statement is, "I am He"... which signifies that all living beings truthfully are an essence of God. How? Every soul atman within a human being is of the same essence as Almighty God but miniscule in form. If a grain of sand is an independent soul atman... the whole mound God Almighty!

If a normal human being says, "I am He"... it is not a truthful statement as the existence of a normal human being indicates presence of impurities within the soul atman. The moment all impurities within the soul atman remove... the human being gains enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally salvation (moksha). This enlightened being can definitely say, "I am He"!

Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed... all man gods having gained enlightenment definitely could "say, "I am He". The statement, "I am that I am" implies that essence of a human being is not perishable like the body. Our soul atman within is imperishable, something indestructible! Every enlightened soul need not further manifest a body!

The statement, "I am that I am" emphatically emphasizes on the fact that in essence every living being is a manifested form... the form manifested by a celestial body... our soul atman within! Jesus Christ stating, "I am that I am" means having gained enlightenment... the soul atman within the body of Jesus Christ has liberated and merged with the supreme whole!

Stated in simpler words, "I am that I am" implies I am what I am... I am simply a soul atman on its cosmic journey and has manifested the body to work out its karma... eradicate the impurities within! Normal human beings mounted with ego do not recognize the soul atman within. Those on the path of absolute truthfulness recognize the presence of soul atman within!

The path of absolute truthfulness paves way for distinctly hearing the sweet small inner voice of our soul atman that seems to come from within our heart. The voice of our soul atman always guides us on the right path. Whenever we tend to go wrong... the sweet small inner voice of our soul atman guides us. To follow or not to follow is the sole prerogative of every human being!

Stated in simpler words, the statement "I am that I am" by Jesus Christ means that anyone following the same path as Jesus Christ can reach the status of Jesus Christ. Mahavira in his lifetime never stated that he was the only enlightened soul! He always stated that every human being has the potential within to become a Mahavira... the enlightened one! I don't think so. They think that by saying "I am" in John 8:58 he as much as said "I am that I am." However, even scholars agree that this argument is nothing but nonsense. If so every time someone said ' I am' would be saying the same thing.

The scholars agree that if Jesus had made the claim, he would indeed have used the whole phrase, "I am that I am." The fact that he didn't and that some insist that it means that is part of their wishful thinking and deception.

Your question is more Theology than philosophy; but they do blend and hopefully continue to harmonize science facts and religion values by the intellectual meanings of philosophy.
Your good question could be under the topic of Theo-ontology.

The One Uncaused Cause of all perfect Reality is I AM

I AM the Primal-Final Father-Infinite is able to project (Transmit) full Personality and mind-spirit relationships to other Coordinate Deity persons. Thus, in our Sovereign Creator Son of God Jesus Christ, (aka Jesus Christ Michael) we now have Him as the fullness of God. JESUS IS I AM here to us in His universe. (our universe too)

In all eternal Truth, Jesus said; "Before Abraham was, I AM."

"I AM the Light of the world"; and Jesus stated many other
I AM Truth statements. To see more of these, (on home page) see my website link below.

Yes, I am given to fully know that my Master/Maker Jesus Christ Michael is I AM the fullness of God to me, now and forevermore HE IS I AM; I am a son of I AM; I Am eternally Certain in Jesus.

I think this means that Jesus Christ is Existence.

He is that He is.
A is A.
He is Himself and no other.

Well, it's supposed to mean that he's God. He was a good Jew, and a good Jew would not say that, because it's a famous quote from God, who is the only one who can say "I am," without qualification. The rest of us say, "I am a doctor," "I am the son of Mark Smith," "I am sad." God says, "I am," because God exists on his own, so to speak, without a reason, a cause, or a creator.

"I AM" is one of the names of the Lord Jesus Christ, who in the Old Testament was known as Jehovah.

God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM,
(Ex. 3: 14-15:"And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.). Here Jesus Christ is telling Moses that he is that same God of Abraham that was known by the name "I AM."

I am the Lord, (Ex. 6: 2-3: And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD:
And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.)

Before Abraham was, I am, (John 8: 56-59: Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.) Here Jesus is testifying that he is that same God that Abraham worshipped, the great 'I AM.' Some have suggested that the comma in the English Bible translation is misplaced and the last part could read "Before Abraham, was I am." indicating that Jesus hold a place ahead of Abraham in the Kingdom of God - many folks did at that time (and some still do - hold Abraham in higher esteem than Jesus Christ)

and again
(Listen to the voice of Jesus Christ, your Redeemer, the Great I Am, whose arm of mercy hath atoned for your sins;).
