It's a language that allows us to instruct the computer to perform certain tasks. There are many different languages such as machine language, assembler, COBOL, C, Java, Fortran, SmallTalk, etc.
Each has it's own syntax. Some are interpreted and some are compiled into object or byte codes.

Raw "computer language" is simply binary (ie: ones and zeros) and is the lowest level language programming language. Next up from that is assembly, then languages such as C and C++ all the way up to languages such as BASIC which are very high level. Lower level languages are harder to code in than higher level languages. However, higher level languages write less efficient code.
