My mom likes to get perfume (evidently White Diamonds is big with the over 50 crowd). Try a gift certificate to a restaurant or a play. Once I got my mother in law (age 52) a few bottles of nice wine and a wine rack. Hope this helps!

Gift certificates are nice, but yet they seem so impersonal to me. Like, they didn't want to take the time to shop or something. I know that's probably not it, but I just feel that way. A very nice or unique nick-knack. A nice picture frame for photos. Books. Kinda hard to tell without knowing the person and what they like. Does she collect anything? Is her kitchen in all cows, rooster, flowers, etc???

That depends on what kind of person she is and what she's interested in. But it's hard to go wrong with a gift certificate for a spa treatment or day at a spa.

I'm getting close to 50, here's what I'd like: a certificate to hang glide, certificate for a full day spa, a hot tub of my own, or even just a (good) foot massage.

DEPENDS ... on what SHE really likes ... look at her hobbies, what her position is, what she ENJOYS on the weekends ...

Some women ... Spa certificates are nice, some like scents (and there are those who do NOT!),

WHEREAS ... there are those women 50+ (like me!) who enjoy their craftmanship hobbies -- and would definitely enjoy a NEW power tool or Accessory (for those tools, of course!) .. because we are renovating our homes to age in place!

Lay away a cruise, I would be something that most people can put a little money into and something to look forward to . Most are very afordable and have a lot to do on board.

Get her a good smelling lotion or a gift card to bath and body works. They always love that kind of stuff.
