I really can't answer this question because you've not given us the use this printer maybe put to.

In my opinion -----it is like my friend who researched for months to buy the fastest computer within his budget......he paid about $600. more for the fastest on his list over the cost of the second fastest........I think this was a major waste. Why? Because the speed difference between the two computers could not be humanly conceived.
The difference was so small that no one observing the two computers over a finite period of time could tell which was faster....but for my friend >>>speed was all that mattered. Most average people can't tell the difference on first glance if it was a laser printer that printed a document or a inkjet..... or do they care. If for professional use in professional situations there may be a discretionary notice of the differences. I have used a $10,000 laser and a $10,000. (the number $10,000. is approximate) and I used them a lot. Laser printing was done for several types of customer applications and the inkjet for others. My customers for the most part didn't know or care which was used all they cared about was it what they expected from me. I even used and still do consumer grade inkjet printers in my every day work and even submit work to customers printed on these systems - again they don't care as long it is what they expected.

Cost is a major factor - of the equipment and the supplies(consumables)- like my friend's PC, $600. for an imperceptibly gain in speed is not a dollar sacrifice I would make.
For me, at least, a great deal of research is done before I purchase any printer at any level of cost and I only buy after I've seen it do what I am buying it for.....if they (the store) doesn't demonstrate the printer I don't buy there.

Be sure of what you want the printer to do, assign a budget and go see the printers that you can afford that will do the job you want and buy the least expensive that fits your needs.

Inkjet printers are cheaper. Mine was £5 in a car boot sale but the current trend is the 3 in 1 where the printer has a scanner in the same case giving a copying facility without using the computer, and also a card reader so you can print photographs. You can also avoid the cost of replacement ink cartridges by buying bottles of ink to refill your old ones. The disadvantage I found is that the ink runs if the paper gets wet. Also the ink cartridges are expensive and do not last long if you do a lot of printing of photographs so for home use the inkjet will do all you want but for commercial use the laser is worth the extra.

In *general*, a laser printer will have better quality. However, there's a lot of good inkjets out there, and a good inkjet can do better than an older/cheap laser printer. There's also the question of how it looks when you first get it, and how it looks after you've printer 100,000 pages on it - a laser printer with a worn out drum can look *horrible*...

Hi,
I would say a inkjet reason being laser printers are more expensive are a fortune in ink and they also waste more energy and have a higer rate of adding to global warming.

Just go with a inkjet much easier to use and maintain

Canon or HP are the best as they do individual cartridges

I had a Canon inkjet for many years with no problems till it finally gave up the ghost through old age early this month. I tried another well-known make (which I won't name just in case!) which broke down after a week, so I bought the latest Canon inkjet - it's GREAT!!!
I asked the manager of Argos to recommend one to me, but he said he wasn't allowed to, but when I'd bought the new Canon, he casually remarked "I've got a Canon at home, too"!
So I recommend Canon every time
