I am actually more interested in theater and drama, because of on the spot performance ,no outtakes no second chances- you have to be on cue and right on the money or else you're screwed lol plus I enjoy the intensity needed that drama brings to the table. Where to start? the state university has a theater program,I guess I could start there being that I am a newb lol

you don't say what state you're in. Go to NYC. There are casting calls listed in local theatre papers.

Community theater programs are a great way to start. How ever don't go and live in NYC because while you may get a part sooner or later it would be later and you would be really tight on money until then. CLasses are a good idea.School programs as well. Also if you live on the west coast check LA for casting calls.

You should take lessons...you won't believe how much there is to acting. After that you can try to audition at a local theatre to get started but if you can, keep taking the classes.

start doing theater at the local level, like community theatre. than if that works out gradually move on to professional theatres in your area. also classes in acting are crucial. and if you want to do musical theatre, singing and dancing lessons too.
