I wonder if I can repay this loan and make any of my payments on time before having to file bankruptcy?

You actually believe that anything on Al Jazeera will be objective? All governments borrow, it is a fact. The European crisis would not have occurred if America had not broken the banking rules, which then caused a "Domino" effect. Where do Arab countries buy their weapons from? America and Russia and China. Where does the money come from? Oil,(which they can sell, but have to borrow money until the over-inflated oil price profits reach their Swiss bank accounts) or they borrow too. There are very few countries that do not borrow. North Korea is one. Would you like to live there? Do you live in a house? Does it have a mortgage? Do you have a credit card? Do you have a mobile phone plan? This is all borrowing. Just scale it up a zillion times. And watch something other than Al Jazeera so that you can get a more balanced view of the world.
