I've got an audition coming up for a musical within the next few days. On the notice posted online, your asked, if not auditioning for a lead, to sing "Happy Birthday" or another simple number with no music.

What exactly qualifies as a "simple number"? Does it HAVE to be like "Happy Birthday" or "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star"? Or can it be like a regular song...acapella style?

Well I would have a song ready and ask them if you can sing it but be prepared to just sing a simple song. Keep the song simple do not sing an opera like a good song would be 'Learn to be Lonely' from the motion picture sound track of Phantom of the Opera.

OR if you want to strech the truth a little audition for a lead role that way you can sing the song you want.
